If you're still running Windows XP you need to be more proactive about security on your system since Microsoft is no longer supporting this operating system.
There will be no further security updates and you can't call them about a problem. When's the last time you did that anyway?
Here's what you need to do to protect your computer and squeeze the last life out of XP:
1. If you're using Microsoft Security Essentials, you need to remove it because it may stop working at any time. Replace it with Avira, AVG, or Avast antivirus. All are free. To remove Microsoft Security Essentials go to Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs, find it on the list, click on it and click remove.
2. Stop using Internet Explorer, it's hasn't been updated in some time anyway. Switch to either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you can even use both. Once again, both are free.
3. Use MalwareBytes, Spybot 2, and SuperAntiSpyware for malware protection. You should be doing that anyway. They are all free!
You can get these free programs at
Just check off the boxes for the programs you want to install and click on the green Get Installer button. It will install the latest versions without any junk or toolbars.
If you want to go with my recommendations of AVG Antivirus, MalwareBytes, Spybot 2, SUPERAntiSpyware, Google Chrome, and Firefox you can download the installer for all of those here without having to go to the Ninite site and picking each one. Just choose "Run" when the popup box comes on screen to install them all at once.
Just Click this link to start the download.
